Lolita Essay Research Paper My analysis of free essay sample

Lolita Essay, Research Paper My investigation of LolitaIn 1958, Vladimir Nabokov made two of the terrible characters throughout the entire existence of writing: Humbert and Lolita Haze. His narrator # 8217 ; s voice and boss character, Humbert, clarifies the mind boggling story of a grown-up male and his impulse. To put this book off from different books about impulse, Nabokov gives Humbert perchance the most socially inadmissible impulse of all: pedophilia. This Lolita causes a great part of the dispute in the book. It is safe to say that she is a guiltless child who is up to speed by a moving edge of # 8220 ; Humbert # 8221 ; that appears to order her life? The answer is one that includes non only an examination of the content, however next to an investigation of the setting wherein the content is perused. It is this examination of setting that will give another grip to non simply the fundamental mystery plan of Lolita, however close to the understood in scoff that puzzles the book. We will compose a custom exposition test on Lolita Essay Research Paper My investigation of or then again any comparative theme explicitly for you Don't WasteYour Time Recruit WRITER Just 13.90/page Similarly as with all writing, huge numbers of the musings and mystery plan turns that flexibly the elation to this impossible to miss book are seen under a misrepresentation of the exceptional coevals that understands it. Commonly the way wherein a book is composed can affect the peruser. The contemplations and mystery plans introduced in his book can be lost in our advanced society. From decennary to decennary and coevals to coevals, it permits every contemporary to interpret the essentialness of the book in another and new way. As a great part of the book rotates around an in the middle of classification family, Nabokov # 8217 ; s book is an immediate examination of the pop progress of the 1950 # 8217 ; s. Compound responses from crowd to crowd will always modification as the in the middle of class of non simply America, however alongside the universe, change appearances and ethical quality in all nations of life. Nabokov points directly to withstand the individuals who read his b ook. Not at all like purposes to cook a foundation that is loathed by the greater part of survey crowds. From moderate 1950 # 8217 ; s to the more postmodern 1990 # 8217 ; s, Lolita has made another sentiment of appall toward Humbert # 8217 ; s activities. It along these lines gets important to examine the way that Nabokov # 8217 ; s novel has been gotten by every contemporary to perceive the implicit biass that are available in our current society. Pedophilia in any twenty-four hours and age is viewed with nauseate. The connection between Humbert and Lolita is no vulnerability an alone 1. In any case, there is some stunning grounds that Humbert has an obsessional-urgent annoyed with Lolita. The impulse is obviously delineated with Humbert # 8217 ; s activities and conduct. Humbert shows over the top tendencies through his elucidating word pick and his directing character. Impulse is a dangerous subject since it is hard to concoct a solid definition. It is the interest for whole con trol, which all the more precisely portrays the full extent of his obsessional movement. Humbert is exceptionally ordering. All through the novel, Humbert attempts to order the peruser # 8217 ; s thoughts regarding his story. For case, he perpetually speaks straightforwardly to the peruser and endeavors to procure them on his side. In add-on, Humbert controls the healers: # 8220 ; I found there was an endless start of strong happiness in insignificant with head-shrinkers: adorably taking them on ; neer permitting them see that you know all the quick ones of the exchange ; thinking up for them rich dreams, # 8230 ; goading them with hoax # 8220 ; cardinal scenes # 8221 ; # 8230 ; # 8221 ; ( 34 ) . He utilizes affectional words and pictures when he depicts individuals in the novel. His semantic correspondence passes on his impulse for nymphets. This is appeared in the way he ever discusses the bo Dy parts and vesture of nymphets. It appears as though Humbert does non consider Lolita to be a homo by any stretch of the imagination. Or maybe, by his portrayals of her natural structure parts and vesture, he appears to accept of her as just an item. All through Lolita, Humbert legitimizes his impulse to the peruser. In this way, the peruser may do the mistake of accepting that Humbert is sick, that he does non cognize that his activities are erroneous. This is accurately Humbert # 8217 ; s program. He needs to order the peruser into identifying with him. Lolita is an extremely hard novel to break down. This seems like an obsessional idea looking to hook its way out of Nabokov # 8217 ; s head. In any case, it is evident that Humbert was suffering from an obsessional bombshell. It is evident just in what he talks around and how he says it. There are exceptionally barely any cases in the novel where Humbert is non talking about Lolita or fantasying about holding unlimited oversight over nymphets. Humbert is obviously rather an unsound character.Nabokov # 8217 ; s book, by the by, is substantially more than only a story of a pedophile and his impulse. It is other than an editorial of American life. One of my most every now and again asked requests, is, of class, Nabokov # 8217 ; s individual sexual inclination: would he say he was a pedophile? It appears to be unthinkable that an individual could make the account out of such a mind blowing impulse and, that, the impulse could be unadulterated fiction. Humbert # 8217 ; s semantic correspondence is in excess of a proficient demonstration of impacts. One outline of Humbert # 8217 ; s impulse with Lolita can be found on page 65 in The Annotated Lolita: I realized I had experienced passionate feelings for Lolita everlastingly ; however I other than realized she would non be everlastingly Lolita. She would be thirteen on January 1. In two mature ages or so she would end being a nymphet and would transform into a # 8220 ; juvenile miss, # 8221 ; thus i nto a # 8220 ; school miss # 8221 ; # 8211 ; that repulsiveness of detestations. The word # 8220 ; everlastingly # 8221 ; alluded just to my ain enthusiasm, to the ever-enduring Lolita as reflected in my blood. The Lolita whose iliac peaks had non yet flared, the Lolita that today I could contact and smell and hear and see, the Lolita of barefaced voice and the rich earthy colored hair # 8211 ; of the thumps and the spin along the edges and the loop at the dorsum, and the gluey hot cervix, and the obscene jargon # 8211 ; # 8221 ; revolting, # 8221 ; # 8220 ; super, # 8221 ; # 8220 ; delicious, # 8221 ; # 8220 ; oaf, # 8221 ; # 8220 ; trickle # 8221 ; # 8211 ; that Lolita, my Lolita, hapless Catullus would lose everlastingly. So how might I manage the cost of non to see her for two months of summer sleep deprivations? Two entire months out of the two mature ages of her staying nymphage. # 8221 ; The book has such a significant number of significances. Is it a muffle on the Middle Cla ss in America? Is it about Obsession? Is it about Love, or Lust? There is no individual meaning of craftsmanship. At the point when two individuals take a gander at a similar model, picture or even book they will each secure something else out of it. No two individuals ever observe very similar things in craftsmanship. Nabokov s is tricky and rather confounding, and run of the mill of workmanship ; everybody can settle on their ain choice. One is left on her ain to reason Nabokov # 8217 ; s purpose. My own emotions are that Nabokov himself was a casualty of abuse. In his creation, he is so clear thus enthusiastic about Humberts enthusiasm for Lolita that it is hard to accept that Humbert is non Nabokov. It is dependent upon the peruser to make up ones psyche if Humbert is Nabokov and if Nabokov is really a pedophile. The subjects of the novel: impulse, inbreeding, and paedophilias were of import occupations in the public arena along these lines, and still today. Subsequently, it is up to us, the perusers, to translate the book, simply as a detailed and obsessional masterpiece.

Argumentative essay on North Korea Essay - 550 Words

Argumentative essay on North Korea (Essay Sample) Content: Argumentative Essay on KoreaStudentà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s Name:Institutional Affiliation:The struggle for independence took various forms with some countries choosing violence as their way to demand the liberation. Others like India choose boycotting as a way of decolonization, and ended up with the same results as those who had fiercely resisted colonization. Japan is thought to have ruled Korea from 1910 until sometimes in 1945 (Suzuki, 2007). As with the countries that chose violence, Korea violently opposed Japanà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s rule, but the latterà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s superiority subdued the feeble resistance from the former. Eventually, Korea had independence, and many expected the country would be stabilized. However, that was disrupted as wrangles erupted with one side opposing the newly-established government. Analysts have claimed that Korea was not ready for independence while others state that Japan is responsible for the chaos in post-independent Korea. In this paper, the posi tion taken is that it is poor leadership that is to blame for Koreaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s woes.Whereas it is possible Japan may have had an influence in trying to destabilize Korea, it is important to realize that leadership is responsible for all that occurs in a country. The genesis of animosity between the two countries could be traced back in the early 1900s when Japan engaged Korea in an illegal treaty. Even after granting some independence to Korea in 1945, the actual freedom came in 1948. Apparently, the US military played a pivotal role in delaying freedom to the Koreans as they lowered its flag in 1945 replacing it with Japanà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s (Suzuki, 2007). Despite these humiliations and pain, Koreaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s situation is its leadersà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ responsibility.Even though the country suffered greatly in terms of oppression, this was the same script in most, if not, all countries where struggle was occurring. Many countries after gaining independence, shuttled the way forward to improve themselves economically. A perfect example is Singapore, which has today become an integral part of the world economy. Therefore, notwithstanding the perceived atrocities Korea may have suffered, the bottom-line is that its leaders did little to unite its citizens.Instead, any person perceived to be anti-government was subjected to an insurmountable torture with some being detained without trial. Shockingly, others were arrested without warranties if the state machineries thought of them as leaders of the opposition ("South Korea - Seoul's Responses" n.d.). Consequently, the countryà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s development agenda was not pursued. Actually, it was considered illegal to access materials like books and radio, which the government thought would incite people against it. When other countries were busy trying to figure out a way to have a consensus on some contentious issues, Korea was busy fighting its own citizens. In light of this, it would then be pretty unfair to lay blame squarely on the outside forces instead of on the right individuals. It is not in any way being implied here that other countriesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ interference with Koreaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s internal matters has not complicated the situation; indeed they have. Why College Is Becoming A Goal - 2383 Words

When it comes to college, it is becoming increasingly clear that a college degree alone does not guarantee a job. As a college student, I see many students doing the bare minimum amount of work to pass a course due to the belief that a degree will get them a job upon graduation. The problem with this philosophy is that college is becoming a goal for more and more high school students and going to college after high school is becoming the norm. This increase in students means greater competition upon graduation and so achieving the bare minimum for graduation no longer suffices. The students involved in extracurricular activities and the ones that pull off the best grade point averages (GPA) are the ones most likely to succeed, but even†¦show more content†¦The point of a class is to teach skills that can be used in future classes or translated into everyday life. As a professor of mine once told me, he has the most respect for students who take notes in class and then review them for about ten minutes later that day to make sure they understand them and do not have any questions because those are the students who only have to review for a short while before a test since they have already learned the material. In this lies my first piece of advice. Take the time to do the readings assigned and really work through them to ensure the material is understood. Psychology of Drug Addiction and Substance Abuse Disorder

Question: Discuss about the Psychology of Drug Addiction and Substance Abuse Disorder. Answer: Introduction: Drug addiction and substance abuse disorder is a disorder that has become quite common among all the age groups starting from adolescents and continuing up to the aged people of the society. This often tends to result in various physical and mental effects among the different individuals destroying lives. Psychology Drug Addiction Substance Abuse Disorder: Drug addiction is a chronic disorder, which often accompanies compulsive, uncontrollable and harmful effects due to the variety of different changes in the brain that may have a long-term effect on the individual. Addiction to drugs is mainly backed up by both physical and psychological explanations. The physical explanation portrays the revival of pain and uneasiness that results from the withdrawal symptoms on an individual depending upon a particular drug. The psychological explanation accompanies the addicted persons needs to take in drugs to overcome certain unpleasant feelings and emotions that one tries to avoid in lives such as loneliness, anxiety and a feeling of being worthless in different aspects of life (Khantzian, 2013). Causes Drug Addiction Substance Abuse Disorder: Severe emotional pain and feelings of losses often make the person dependent on drugs. This addiction seems to relieve them from the pain from which they want to run away. The psychological factors that make the more addicted are the rewarding sensation that they derive from remaining addicted to various substances (Wise, 2014). This habitual means for making oneself free from any undesired activity forces the individual to remain addicted to it even if the person wants to be relieved from addiction. A neurological effect that occurs as a result of running away from learning mechanisms and also the inability to develop ones own wishes and desire for entertainment and enjoyment are the other reasons that psychologically leads to the path of addiction of substances (Everitt Robbins, 2016). Solution for Drug Addiction Substance Abuse Disorder: For commenting on the solution of Addiction of Drug, one must always remember that prevention is better than cure. Therefore, prevention criteria should be focused on by involving the negative aspects in several workshops and programs like universal programs that would assess the risk factors to all the children in a particular setting like schools, colleges, university, workplaces, and local communities. Selective programs should be consulting target-based audiences of a particular age. Indicated programs should include those individuals who have already started taking substances. These types of programs would be more effective than a wide array of different individuals given a same intervention. Often long term and repeated care should be provided to the patients who have already been addicted to it. Medications such as Buproprion, methamphetamine and others along with behavioral therapies such as Multisystemic Therapy ( MST), Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT) and Cognitive Beh avioral therapy (CBP) are also effective interventions which are used (Hoffman et al., 2013). Conclusions: Drug addiction and substance abuse has become a leading concern among different nations that require urgent attention. Variety of psychological factors act as main causes that lead to an individuals increased addiction to various drugs. As a result proper behavioral therapies, medication and awareness workshops should be conducted to make the nation free from such addiction and spread awareness. References: Everitt, B. Melatonin Essays - Circadian Rhythm, Melatonin, Sleep Disorder

Melatonin It seems as though every time we turn around there is a new health fad, be it a drug, herb or diet. Within the past 10 years the drug melatonin has hit the market and seems to have made quite a splash with the public and the media. At a time when an estimated thirty to forty million Americans suffer from serious sleep disorders that interfere with their sleep quality and health, many are desperate for an easy solution (Sleep Foundation 1). The media claims that this ?wonder drug? melatonin is the answer to these sleep disorders and also can prevent several illnesses. But is melatonin really safe enough for the public to experiment with? How much is known about what it does and its side effects? These are many of the questions that scientists are currently trying to answer. Listening to claims from the media and consumers it is tough to get the real story about the research scientists are conducting on melatonin. Melatonin is an effective drug in aiding in sleep disorders. Melatonin was discovered in 1963 by dermatologist Aaron Lerner at Yale University. Lerner found skin lightning properties from the aggregation of organelles containing pigment (melanin) in the skin cells of amphibians. These collections of organelles are called melanosomes.2 His findings were published in the Journal of American Chemistry Society in a paper on melatonin entitled ?Isolation of Melatonin, the Pineal Gland Factor that Lightens Melanocytes.?3 Melatonin is only one of the many hormones produced by our bodies. This specific hormone is produced in the pineal gland, a small pea sized gland located at the base of the brain. To a lesser extent, melatonin is also produced in the retina.4 The pineal gland begins its production and secretion of melatonin at dusk and ceases at dawn. The pineal gland is not solely responsible for the release of melatonin, it receives instructions from the hypothalamus telling it when to begin and cease. Part of the hypothalamus, called the Suprachiasmatic Nucleus (SCN), tracks the length of day. It is also responsible for the regulation of many chemicals that govern the complicated process of sleep, including melatonin. The SCN controls the sleep-wake cycle and release of melatonin to fit seasonal changes in the amount of daylight.5 Recently, melatonin has hit the market in the form of a pill and is sold in health stores throughout the country. It is sold as a sleeping aid in pill form that claims it cures and prevents sleep disorders and jet lag in some cases. It has also been called an anti-aging drug that may prevent hypertension, high cholesterol, migraine, and even cancer and AIDS. None of these claims have been proven, but this does not stop consumers from buying and using this drug.6 Melatonin use is not regulated by the government because it is found in some foods.7 Since Aaron Lerner's discovery of melatonin there has been much research on what this hormone is responsible for. Since it was thought that melatonin was involved somewhere in sleep, researchers began a study administering a synthetic form of the hormone to subjects, taking note of the effect in had on different stages of sleep. In the early 80's, Dr. Richard Wurtman of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Clinical Research Center began giving volunteers what now would be considered a megadose of melatonin (240 mg). He found that melatonin aided in sleep and later found that as little as a tenth of a milligram can hasten the onset of sleep regardless of the time of day.8 Wurtman is the named inventor on an MIT patent pending on a melatonin-based sleeping pill (the chemical itself can not be patented). He states there is ?no controversy? that melatonin, even in fractions of a milligram, can induce sleep and shift the sleep cycle.9 Attenburrow and associates conducted a double-blind, placebo controlled, cross-over experiment to determine the effect of melatonin on sleep. Fifteen subjects were given .3 mg, 1 mg of melatonin or a placebo. The subjects sleep was continually measured, including both non-REM and REM sleep, over a period of time. Subjects were then given the opposite substance they were administered in the first segment of the study. Research found that

U.S. Population Is it out of control essays

U.S. Population Is it out of control essays Our world has grown by one billion just in the past twelve years, with the population reaching six billion in 1999. Nearly half of the world's population is under the age of twenty-five, and more than one billion are young people between the ages of fifteen and twenty-four, the parents of the next generation (U.S. Population Policy 2000). Over ninety percent of this population growth is taking place in the developing world, in sharp contrast to Europe, North America and Japan, where population growth has slowed dramatically or even stopped. The United States is the only industrialized country in the world where large population increases are projected, due mainly to immigration. For example, in Texas, population growth could not be more evident; the population of Texas is predicted to double in thirty to thirty-five years "The population in Texas is projected to double in the next 30-35 years" "High birth rates and an influx of new residents powered Texas' population past 20 million this year" (Klein 1999). "As of July 1 [1999], [Texas] added more than 3 million residents since 1990, an 18 percent growth rate that nearly doubled the national average" "International immigration accounted for 491,931 new residents of Texas or 23 percent of the growth between 1990 and 1996, and domestic immigration from other states in the United States accounted for 466,970 or 21.8 percent of population growth from 1990 to 1996" (Murdock 2000). "Recognizing that our population cannot grow indefinitely, and appreciating the advantages of moving now toward the stabilization of population, the Commission recommends that the Nation welcome and plan for a stabilized population" (The Rockefeller Commission 2001). "The fourth, fifth and sixth billion marks in global population were achieved in only 14, 13, and 12 years, ...

Lesson Plan Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Lesson Plan - Assignment Example Proper addressing of these objectives enable learners be in a position to write short stories that are not only complete but also creative. Secondly, teaching students on proper editing skills will result to the learners applying them effectively on their writing. Finally, learners will be in a position to write brief contents that are of high quality, this is due to their comprehension of the difference between quality writings and quantity. Since writing an outstanding mini saga requires a lot of creativity, I will ensure that I psychologically prepare the students for the lesson. First, I will introduce the topic by writing the word â€Å"Saga† on the board before asking students if they have any prior knowledge of the term. After informing them that a Saga is a long story normally comprising of heroic events or something dramatic, I will proceed to state that the day’s lesson will not be on â€Å"saga† but â€Å"mini saga†, an implication that it will be brief. Once the class is aware of the day’s lesson, I will start by first defining the term Mini saga as a brief form of writing, normally has exactly fifty words excluding the title. The fifty word mini saga comprises of three sections, which are beginning, middle and end. I will then state a brief history of the mini saga by stating that Brian Aldiss is the man behind this form of writing. The main reason why Aldiss came up with the mini saga form of writing is that according to him, telling a story in a few words not only was it fun but also a challenging experience (â€Å"British Council†). After ensuring the class has full knowledge on the term mini saga, I will begin the lesson teaching them on how to come up with an appropriate and magnificent mini saga. Learners will participate in a classroom discussion where they will display their writing and editing skills.

Demographic transition Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Demographic transition - Essay Example Phase I is mostly seen in pre-industrialized countries (Galloway & Patrick,1986). Most developing countries are in the Phase II of the transition. In the second phase, the state of equilibrium in the population is lost and death rate is exceeded by birth rate thereby leading to a â€Å"population explosion.† This change is subjected to the fact that better facilities such as good sanitation, nutrition, health facilities etc. are implemented. Such measures help in checking the rate of mortality and increase the lifespan. Though the death rate is lowered the birth rate remains high because most of the people looks upon children as assets who will help bring in money into the family. These growths in population triggers the next stage of transition i.e. Phase III. In this phase a decline in birth rate is seen. This decline is seen because the population is educated and use contraception. Most of the people earn more and therefore do not look upo children as assets and parents realize that children need to be looked after well (Lee, 2003,p 170).â€Å"Some of the improvement in child survival is itself a response to parental decisions to invest more in the health and welfare of a smaller number of children† (Nerlove, 1974). In phase IV, both birth and death rates reduce drastically. This is because of societal changes where too many children are looked upon as hindrance in leading a good satisfactory life and hence both fertility and birth rate falls. According to researchers, the factors that are primarily responsible for declination in the Crude Birth rate include education among women, use of contraceptives, medical facilities which help in survival of babies thereby eliminating need for reproduction of more babies. On the other hand better health facilities, newer technologies and infrastructure, faster transport and higher earnings trigger declination in Crude Death rate. All developed

French secularism and the ban of religious symbols in public places Essay

French secularism and the ban of religious symbols in public places - Essay Example The French law does not particularly mention the religious symbol, but most people are of the opinion that the law was targeting the veil worn by Muslim women. The law seemed to have stemmed from a controversial occurrence that happened in 1989 and 1994; in 1989, three female students were expelled from schools for declining to remove their hijabs (veil). In 1994, the minister in charge decreed that that ostentatious symbols’ were to be banned in public schools around the country, but discreet symbols were to be allowed to the discretion of the school or the teacher in charge. The Muslims in France France has the largest number of Muslims in Europe, the population of Muslims in the country stand at about 5 to 6 million, representing approximately 8.3% of the French population (Lenze, 2013). Majority of the Islamic population in France are moderate, but there are fundamentalist, the headscarf worn by Muslim schoolgirls is a symbol of the Islamic religion and culture and it is w oven into the Muslim society all over the globe. Researchers have often enquired into the reasons for the lack of integration into the entire French society, and the reasons why the emerging generations are drifting towards fundamentalist Islam. Writers have often pondered on the reasons why the community cannot be integrated into the French secular society (Sarat, 2011). The Secular State France is founded on the principle of cuius regio eius regio this means that what the leader believes so should the subjects, even though the state disowns religious adherence (Herb and Kaplan, 2008).   Religion is very important to the secular state, although the state has the ultimate power to interpret the significance of certain signs and symbols. This particularly implied that the veil worn by Muslim women and girls was taken to be a religious sign, this being in contradiction to the secular principles of the French society. It has often been stated by Muslim clerics that the wearing of the headscarf by women in public places is a religious duty (Valsiner and Rosa, 2007).   The wearer of the veil assumes the obligation bestowed upon her by the Islamic faith , and in addition the state should realize the fundamental human right, that if a person’s conscience compels one to wear the veil they should be allowed only to the extent that they do not violate other people’s right. The law on the on the other hand merely depict the veils as symbols and signs without determining the reasons why Muslim women wear them. The principle of a secular state may have an implied meaning that reflects on a state that is not bounded by any religious belief but it allows her citizens to assume any they deem fit. However, the law banning of wearing scarves in public places seemed to be intoned on forcing the citizens of the French republics to be secular (Jones, 2011).  This perception was cemented by a top European court ruling after a case was brought before it pitting t wo French Muslim girls versus the state (D W, 2008). According to the law, secularism does not contend on the religion being restricted to the secrecy of integrity, to its being deprived of public views ( Graff, 2004). It merely implies that only the free expression of the religious signs is a major component of the liberty. Therefore, a fundamental question that arises is that in any secular state such the one in

Free Henry IV Essays: The Reign of a Tyrant :: Henry IV Henry V Essays

Henry IV:   The Reign of a Tyrant  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚      Although the blame for the fall of Richard II and the rise of Henry IV can be shared by them both, Henry IV having established the precedence of usurpation finds England wracked with civil strife after only one year on the throne. Henry IV discovers the impossible situation of a monarch who in making any choice or decision must face the opposition of those who disagree with him and support the other side of the issue.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Henry IV has desired to lead a Crusade perhaps as penance for the death of Richard. However, civil problems prevent his actions at every turn. The Percys with young Hotspur's recent victory against the Scots find themselves with many nobles among the prisoners. They refuse to surrender these prisoners to Henry IV but elect to use them for their own purposes. Amongst themselves the Percys reveal their desire to be free of Henry and their sorrow that they ever turned from Richard. One of their relatives should be king instead of Henry since Richard II had named Mortimer as his heir. All their discontent, ambition to have a king in their family, and doubts about Henry IV's right to be king combine to bring them to a point of uniting the various centers of rebellion against Henry IV into one united effort to usurp the throne and restore it to Mortimer, Richard's heir.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Perhaps even more distressing for Henry IV is the behavior of Prince Hal. Henry desires a son who will mirror all his strengths. Instead he finds in Hal a mirror of his weaknesses. Hal is consorting with thieves learning to steal even as his father stole a crown. Just as his father courted the affections of the common people before he became king, Hal spends his time with common people and the low pursuits of drinking, whoring, and stealing.

Impact of Globalization Essay

It has gradually evolved from the 1970s after the advent of different forms of high speed transportation and communication to the age of information technologies around the millennium, to make a single unified community where all the major sources of various social conflicts have disappeared (Scheuerman, 2010 and World Regional Geography, 2009). There are several ways of defining Globalization. As defined by Dr. Nayef R. F. Al-Rodhan (2006), â€Å"Globalization is a process that encompasses the causes, course, and consequences of transnational and transcultural integration of human and non-human activities. The effects of Globalization are manifold. It influences industrial sector, financial sector, labour markets and consumers of a particular country. On one hand it gives rise to more jobs and industries, however, on the other hand, countries are becoming dependant on the other country for a specific product/raw material. Additionally, because of outsourcing jobs from developed economy are being transferred to the developing economy, which has a negative effect on the developed economy and positive on the developing economy. 2. 2 Consumer Packaged Goods and Globalization Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) are sold at relatively low price and are non durable goods like grocery items, soft drinks etc. Large CPG manufacturer has an advantage of strong brands, greater geographical coverage and having major retailers. CPG industry is affected by the change in fashion, fads and consumer preferences, which in turn effects the purchasing decision of a consumer. Therefore, I believe that in the fast and ever changing world of Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) it is imperative to discuss the effects of globalization on this industry. Additionally, there is immense pressure and intense competition between the manufacturers globally to fulfill the demand of consumers. 2. 0 Impact of Globalization on CPG Industry 3. 3 Costs and Benefits of Globalization on CPG Industry There are diverse ways in which globalization impinge on CPG industry. Some are beneficial for the industry and some aren’t. The good side of globalization is explained as follows: a. Profits from emerging markets: Procter and Gamble in year 2006, showed a total sales of US $ 68 billion, out of which US $ 21 billion was from emerging markets. Additionally, from 1992 to 2006, globalization has boosted the American economy by US $ one trillion in Gross Domestic Product (Veiders, 9th July 2007, Supermarket news). b. Consumer’s advantage: The consumer gets the advantage of choosing from wide variety of goods, in addition to the comparative advantage. Additionally, the offshore markets are producing goods at a price which is lower than the domestic production of a particular country. Though this is an advantage to the consumer, this could hamper production and associated profits in some countries (Oline Thompson, 2006, CPG Manufacturing) c. Foreign capital access: Foreign capital access is the main driving force of globalization. This in turn increases the investment power of a particular country to produce better produce economically (13th February, 1996, WTO News (press releases). The other side of globalization illustrates some problems faced by CPG Industry: a. Cultural disparity: A product that might be a necessity in one country might not be even known or used in the other, which would have a negative effect on the CPG industry while trying to encourage its use in a particular country. To cite a salient example, Brazilians usually don’t have breakfast, because they sleep late at night and consumers in China for breakfast eat hot, soft and savoury, while the North Americans love cold, crunchy and sweet breakfast. This was the difference analyzed by Kellogg Company in 2007 (Veiders, 9th July 2007, Supermarket news). b. Global Competition: In this fast paced environment any CPG company have to constantly innovate and differentiate their product, to maintain or increase their market share. Every year large number of new products are being roduced and capture the shelve space of the existing labels and compete with them.

Knightriders, By George Romero - 2057 Words

The film, Knightriders, is a quirky Indie movie made in 1981 by George Romero. It is a modern retelling of the tale of King Arthur. Billy, â€Å"King William†, leads his group of motorcycle knights to various towns to perform their jousting routine. His vision is to lead the group under the traditional Camelot Arthurian rule. Along the way, a rival faction emerges from within the group to compete for the throne, with Morgan leading the mutinous faction. After multiple issues arise within the group such as a coercive police officer wrongfully arresting Billy and Whiteface, a promoter contacting the group, and a fight breaking out between members of the group, some members abandon the group while others go with the promoter. Eventually the group†¦show more content†¦The police officer that arrested Billy and Whiteface used his coercive power to falsely arrest them. One of the main ideas through the plot of the movie was centered around the rivalry for the throne. They j ousted for power of the throne and it ended up carrying over into the relationships of the group. At one point the group was divided over who should be the king, with some preferring Morgan and others loyal to Billy. The rivalry was centered around their traits and personality types. The characters showed that no one can really change who they are; they did change some parts about themselves, but overall was it proved that important character traits are difficult to change. Morgan and Billy changed the most, but it took almost the entire movie for them to do so. They had to go through various issues, see that they were wrong, and change their ways of thinking. That’s when the group achieved the greatest cohesion. Both of them had things that they needed to change about themselves, and they prove that too much of one of the Big Five traits can be negative. Billy was shown to be too closed off to openness when he would not change anything about the group or even consider the promoter’s help, while Morgan was too open to the changes going on around them. Both of them had extremely low neuroticism; they did not remain calm when being tested by an issue or another member and both took
